چکیده

The 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spin-lattice relaxation rate of hydrated sands is related to the surface-to-volume ratio of the voids or pores between the hydrated sand grains and the surface relaxivity of the grains. The electron spin resonance (ESR) signal is often used to predict the relative surface relaxivity as the surface relaxivity is thought to be proportional to the concentration of paramagnetic species in the sand grains. We have identified a discrepancy in the surface relaxivity and ESR signal of an ocean beach sand compared to two sands of similar diameter from inland deposits. This difference can either be due to more surface weathering of the inland sand or more paramagnetic material from seawater adhering to the ocean sand.

Laboratory studies of the effect of sorbed oil on proton nuclear magnetic resonance

Proton NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) measurements were made of T1 and T2 relaxation times of water in saturated sands containing varying amounts of sorbed oil on the grain surfaces. The porosity, surface area, and grain density of the sands and the relaxation times of the extracted pore water were also determined experimentally. Sorption of oil changed the relaxation time of water in the sat...

A Constitutive Model for Sands

In this paper, an elastoplastic constitutive model is presented for predicting sandy soil behavior under monotonic and cyclic loadings. The model is based on the CJS3 model that takes into account deviatoric and isotropic mechanisms of plasticity. The flow rule in deviatoric mechanism is non-associated and a kinematic hardening law controls the evolution of the yield surface. In the present s...

The Viability of Oil Extraction from Trinidad Tar Sands by Radio Frequency Heating: A Simulation Approach

Trinidad has tar sand resources of about 2 billion barrels of oil on land in the Parrylands/Guapo and Brighton areas. With an oil price of over USD 25 per barrel, the commercial extraction of oil from Trinidad tar sands is viable, but it requires a careful study. The relatively small extent of this tar sand (about 10,000 acres and with depths varying from surface to less than 500 feet) and with...

فرآیند‌های غالب در تشکیل و تحول مورفولوژی توده‌های ماسه‌ای جلگه خوزستان

One of the evidences of erosion process in the arid regions is wind erosion. Relative flatness, poverty of the vegetation, the dominant winds and alluvial weak formation are the most important intensive factors of the wind erosion. These conditions are in the central regions and the coastal plain in the south of Iran and the enormous sands massive where have been formed, scatter are the result ...

Identification of Sand Dune Sources in the East Sistan, Iran by Using Mineralogical and morphoscopic Characterization of Sediments

Sedimentation in the dune fields of the Sistan Plain of Iran is the result of deposition of fine-grained sediment downstream of the Helmand River. Due to poor adhesion and low moisture content of soil particles, and the strong renowned Levar wind, dune fields mostly of Barchan and Nebkha types are created. This study aims to assess the physical, morphological and mineralogical characteristics o...
